Can I still drive it?
With a steady engine light and a mild shake, usually yes, gently and for a short time. Book it in soon. If the engine light is flashing, slow down and stop driving as soon as it is safe. A flashing light usually means a strong misfire, and unburnt fuel can damage the catalytic converter.
Symptoms
Tick what you notice. Two or more usually point to a misfire.

Narrow it down
Two questions point you to the most likely part.
What does the engine light do?
When is it worst?
Answer both questions to see the most likely cause.
Without a light, it may be early spark plug wear, or not a misfire at all. If the shake at idle drops a lot in N, check the engine mounts. If the plugs are due, start there.
A steady light with a rough engine usually points to a plug or coil. Have the fault codes read: a code that names one cylinder points to that cylinder’s coil or plug.
Worn plugs and weak coils often misfire first under load, when you accelerate. Check when the plugs were last changed and have the codes read.
A flashing engine light usually means a strong misfire. Slow down, stop when it is safe, and have the codes read before driving far.
Likely causes, most common first
Most misfires come from the ignition: the spark plug or the coil that fires it. Check those before fuel or sensors.

01Worn spark plugs Most common
Plugs wear with every spark. As the gap grows, the spark weakens and the cylinder can misfire, often first under load or when cold.
Check: Check the service history. If the plugs are due or overdue, replace them as a set.
02Failed ignition coil Common
Each cylinder usually has its own coil. Heat can crack a coil, and oil in the plug well can damage it. A weak coil causes a misfire on one cylinder.
Check: Have the codes read. On engines where the coils are easy to reach, swap the suspect coil with its neighbour: if the misfire moves, the coil is faulty.
03Fuel injector Less common
A blocked or leaking injector gives the cylinder too little or too much fuel. It can cause a misfire that plugs and coils don’t fix.
Check: If new plugs and a swapped coil don’t move the misfire, have the injector on that cylinder tested.

04Air leak or sensor fault Less common
An air leak after the air flow sensor, or a faulty crank, cam or air flow sensor, can make the engine run rough or misfire.
Check: Listen for a hiss near the intake with the engine running. A diagnostic tool can read the sensor values.
Fix the cause, not just the plug. If one coil fails because oil is leaking into its plug well, a new coil can fail again. Check the plug wells for oil when you change plugs or coils.
Checks you can do
A basic code reader helps. Do these before you buy parts.
Read the fault codes
A code reader or workshop can show if one cylinder is misfiring, and which one.
Check the plug history
Find when the spark plugs were last changed. Old plugs are the first suspect.
Swap the coil
Where coils are easy to reach, swap the suspect coil with its neighbour. If the misfire moves, replace the coil.
Look for oil in the plug wells
Oil around the coils or plugs often points to a leaking cover gasket, which can damage coils.
Note when it happens
Cold start, idle, or under load. Tell us what you notice.
Send us the result
Send us the fault code, when it happens, and your VIN. We confirm the right plug, coil or injector.
Parts and prices
Genuine JLR spark plugs next to Denso and Champion, plus an IML ignition coil. Bosch injectors start from 385.00 AED.

Prices on 27 Oct 2026, in AED, per part. The coil saving compares with genuine LR035548 at 460.00 AED. Plugs and coils change with engine and year: send your VIN and we confirm the right part numbers before you order.
FAQ
Can I drive with the engine light on?
If it is steady and the engine runs reasonably, usually yes, gently and for a short time. If it is flashing, slow down and stop as soon as it is safe: a strong misfire can damage the catalytic converter.
Should I change all the spark plugs together?
Yes, usually. Plugs wear at a similar rate, so replace them as a set. Replace a coil only on the cylinder that has the fault.
Is it the coil or the plug?
Have the codes read first. If the plugs are due, change them. If the misfire stays on one cylinder, swap that coil with its neighbour: if the misfire moves, it is the coil.
Are aftermarket plugs and coils any good?
We stock Denso, Champion and NGK plugs and IML coils next to genuine JLR. Aftermarket costs less; genuine is the factory part. Each comes with its manufacturer’s warranty.
Which plug fits my car?
Land Rover uses different plugs and coils across engines and years. Send your VIN on WhatsApp and we confirm the right part number.
